Wishing everyone a happy start to the New Year. Hope everyone had a great holiday season, and feel refreshed.
Lol, although I find it strange, that New Year’s is a time to celebrate a New Year, when nature is asleep (winter), reflecting a time for rest. Another attempt at throwing us off our circadian rhythm. Why are we celebrating renewal when nature is at rest? Should we try to follow the natural rhythms of nature? This is one of the key concepts of Ayurveda.
How can we be healthy, and follow the natural rhythms of nature? Do you want to start this New Year off, by actually getting to the root of your health issues mentally, physically, spiritually?
Our emotional and physical health are tied. If you try to separate one from the other then there is imbalance. For example, you can seem to have “good” physical health on the outside, but your mind is trapped in the Maya, an illusion of what seems to be “good health;” your physical state will catch up to you.
Our bodies respond to our emotions, and it cascades chemical responses. For example, when an emotion is triggered, the brain’s emotional processing center, the amygdala, sends signals to the hypothalamus. Then the hypothalamus acts as the command center, activating the sympathetic nervous system and the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis. Etc…
Our minds are influenced by the 3 Gunas, which are the 3 universal attributes of consciousness:
- Sattva, means balance + purity: attributed to harmony, clarity, peace, and intelligence.
- Rajas, means restlessness + activity: attributed to activity, passion, ambition. Excess rajas can lead to anger, frustration, anxiety, and a restless mind.
- Tamas, means darkness + inertia: attributed to ignorance, heaviness, lethargy. Excess tamas, leads to confusion, apathy, depression, and lack of motivation.
1 tip to help increase Sattva is practice mindfulness. In the Maya, our minds are constantly rooted in confusion, conformity, comparing, copying. Mindfulness = Self reflection, which can create a better world by: nurturing individual growth, improving relationships, + increasing accountability, in turn leads to more conscious actions, which can have a positive impact on communities and society as a whole.
Gratitude. Thank you. Stay tuned for more tips & info. Take care.
