Cool Down – Ayurvedic Breathwork

🌺Ayurvedic tips to COOL Down with Breathwork

🌿Easy and effective breath work to cool/calm down the body and mind is called Lunar Pranayama. Why this breathing pattern? It stimulates your lunar energy which is characterized by ida nadi (channel of prana/vital energy)…thus delivering the cooling conditions linked to the moon energy.

🌿Lunar pranayama is similar to alternate nostril breathing, but the difference is that the inhalation happens from the left nostril (bringing in cooling energy), and exhalation is from the right nostril. 

🌿Follow the steps below for Lunar Pranayama:

⚘ Comfortably sit with a straight spine. Then put your left hand on your knees, with your palms facing up. Make sure that the tips of your thumb and index finger are touching.

⚘ Now put your right hand into Vishnu Mudra position. How? Fold your middle 2 fingers into the palm of your hand. 

⚘ Now take your right thumb to shut off your right nostril. 

⚘ Then inhale slowly and mindfully through your left nostril.

⚘ Next, shut your left nostril with your ring finger at the same time as releasing your thumb from your right nostril.

⚘ Then use your thumb to shut off your right nostril.

⚘ Next, inhale through your left nostril.

⚘ Then shut your left nostril with your ring finger, releasing your thumb from your right nostril, and make sure you exhale completely through your right nostril.

⚘ Do this for 1-2 minutes, inhaling through left, and exhaling through right. 

⚘ After, sit quietly for 7 minutes or so, while you bring your right hand to your right knee, palm facing up, at the same time as bringing the tips of your index finger + thumb touching together. 

🍂Make sure to exhale properly, and mindfully through your right nostril … your inhalation and exhalation are equal amount of time, i.e. inhale count of 3, and exhale count of 3.

💦 This breathwork will help you cool down your body, and mind during the last of these beautiful summer days! Lunar Pranayama is best while on an empty stomach, but great anytime! 💦
