Kidney Health Tips – Part 1/2

November 26, 2025

This gives you a basic idea of an Ayurvedic perspective, for renal detoxification, tissue repair, and systemic balance.  Part 1/2.

1.) Function

Kidneys, called Vrikka, in Sanskrit are a part of the Mutravaha Srotas, (channels of the urinary system). According to Ayurveda, it is considered a Maha Marma, (vital point), the seat of Prana, (life force) and Oja (vitality).

Kidneys are responsible for fluid balance, waste elimination/toxin clearance, electrolyte balance, + hormonal regulation.

Optimal kidney health requires nutrient sufficiency, vascular stability, & sustained hydration.

2.) Adequate Hydration

Adequate water intake helps sustain the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) by maintaining proper blood volume + pressure.

Adequate hydration helps inhibit the accumulation of urea + creatinine by allowing the kidneys to effectively filter these waste products from the bloodstream + excrete them via urine.

Choose mineral rich fluids like coconut water. Avoid over hydration.

3.) Proper Nutrition

Make sure you eat for your body type/ imbalances. Eat whole foods that are easily digested, light, reduce inflammation, contain magnesium, potassium, omega 3, + antioxidants.

  • Eat Vegetables – cabbage, cauliflower, bottle gourd …
  • Eat fruits – apples, blueberries, papaya, raspberries, strawberries, pomegranate …
  • Eat grains + legumes – moong/mung beans, basmati long grain white rice, millet, oats …
  • Limit refined sodium, excess protein, ultra processed foods, sugar, alcohol, + caffeine.

4.) Try + Avoid Nephrotoxins

  • Avoid chronic use of NSAIDS, unnecessary medications, or supplements. Always consult a health professional before even ingesting supplements!
  • Limit alcohol, as it increases renal oxidative stress. Drink the appropriate amount of caffeine.
  • Monitor heavy metal exposure, (aluminum, mercury). I provide biometric tests for testing heavy metals.

Stay tuned for Part 2/2 on kidney health tips.
